The March Meta Matters Challenge Reopens for Year 2

March Meta Matters Challenge banner by thenewbuzzwuzz

Just a reminder to everyone who has ever created any meta that the [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge community will be up and running again to help get you going (or started!) on archiving your meta works on AO3.

While creators have often used multiple sites to host their works, one type of work has generally been left out of fans' efforts at archiving and preserving fanworks -- meta. In many cases, meta posts have not been copied anywhere else other than the location where they were first posted, leaving them hard to find and particularly vulnerable to loss.

So what if we can make a small dent in getting it saved? The March Meta Matters Challenge is focused on not just new meta, but making sure older meta gets a chance to be read and remain a part of fandom history. While new meta is also encouraged, the priority for Meta Matters is to make sure meta doesn't vanish with sites or personal accounts when those get closed or moved.

This is a month long event that kicks off on March 1. There are no signups and anyone can participate, whether here at Dreamwidth or elsewhere.

If you have any questions about MMM, look over how the challenge works, or visit our FAQ or leave a comment!

Also, if you enjoy meta? Check out the over 250 works archived in 2020.

Reproduction in the GFFA Part Three: Using it in Fanfic

Nobody has given me a better name for artificial wombs based off cloning tanks for the GFFA as discussed in Reproduction in the GFFA, so I'm using gestational chambers. And since I can't sew up a Free Ryloth Twi'lek costume right now, I decided to give you guys some summary fic as to how I would introduce the concept of gestational chambers to the GFFA. It probably won't become a more polished story because of other writing projects, unless someone else wants to take it as a plot bunny and go.

Setting is post-Luke/Callista break-up and after Mara Jade acquires Jade's Fire. I'm a little fuzzy on that time period in Legends continuity. I own Children of the Jedi and Darksaber, but I don't remember reading the second one. And I don't remember if I had read Planet of Twilight and never bothered to buy it either. But this is set before the Hand of Thrawn duology and probably the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy too.

I hope you enjoyed reading this. I learned a bit about my inspiration process. Dialogue comes first with the situation that creates the dialogue. Action sequences come later and that includes fight and sex scenes, which probably explains why I gloss over them in first drafts and have to make a concentrated effort to expand and explain them. And if anyone wants to flesh this scenario out to a full story, you've have my blessing.

Reproduction in the GFFA

This post didn't get much discussion when I put it up on Tumblr, so let's try it out here. It was inspired by a comment thread on JediMordsith’s The Gift Chapter Eighteen. I hope to spur a discussion or provide some meta and head-canons, because I can’t remember anyone discussing baby making before. Canon for this post are the saga films (most of the cited evidence comes from the original trilogy and the prequels trilogy). Clone Wars and Rebels television series are part of the canon, but I haven’t watched either shows, so someone else will have to provide examples from them. EU Legends and Disney EU supplement the canon and will be cited so others can use those tidbits or set them aside according to their personal preferences. Everybody ready?

soundtrack for events/characters not in the films

I was thinking today about what music might be appropriate for characters and events not shown in the films. Obviously, we can't have John Williams write us an opera based on the Thrawn trilogy--though it would be awesome--and distinctive leitmotifs would carry over, but I'm curious what music and songs people imagine to fill the void. Any ideas?

(AKA I want an excuse to listen to music I haven't heard before through the lens of my Star Wars obsession.)

I feel a great disturbance in the fandom

All right, friends, in light of upheavals on tumblr, I've taken the liberty of creating this community for fans of Star Wars Legends -- i.e, the old "Expanded Universe" before Disney shelved it in favor of their own stuff.

Right now, the rules are still in flux as we wait for the dust to settle and see what sticks and what doesn't. In general, let's keep the conversations Legends-centric and be kind to each other. By "Legends," we mean any Star Wars material prior to Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm in 2014. Use tags, warnings and cuts where appropriate, especially for longer posts. No ship wars, please.
